Meet miss Cinder!

Cinder has what is called a reducible umbilical hernia. This means that there is a small internal opening where the cord was attached. Reducible means that it is not a fixed or fused protrusion and that it can be gently pushed back into place. But it will likely come back out with exertion.

It is not an open wound. It's kind of like an "outie" belly button, appearance-wise.

Hernias are classified as common and can sometimes occur during the natural whelping process when mom's are in charge of removing umbilical cords.

I've waited a few weeks to monitor, and to get an exam and speak with my vet about it. He would like to allow her to mature and see how much of it closes because in many cases they fully close on their own and need no repair. Sometimes they don't close completely and it's up to the vet to decide what, if any treatment is needed.

Whatever extent of closure there is by 4-6 months old, that will most likely be it. If deemed necessary, a repair procedure will need to be scheduled when she is at least 6 months old.

Due to the potential for future treatment, I will be heavily discounting Cinder. This IN NO WAY affects her functionality, mobility, temperament, personality, etc. It does not cause her pain or discomfort. Hernias most generally pose no health risks. It will not affect her in other developmental areas.

Per my usual protocol, Cinder is being offered as a pet only on a spay agreement.
